Visit the Past at La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles

The La Brea Tar Pits sits right in the middle of Los Angeles. Thousands of years ago, tar came seeping up out of the ground and then water covered up the soggy black mush. Animals came to drink what looked like fresh clean water and when they got close, they were stuck in the black gooey tar. The animals were caught and soon died right in the tar pit. Now the bones are preserved and it is possible for visitors to come and see this interesting phenomena.

Some of the animal-s remains that can be seen at the pits are mammoths, bears and sloth-s. Children are fascinated and adults amazed that right in the middle of this bustling town it is possible to enjoy a piece of history.

The museum is open everyday from nine to five and on the first Tuesday of every month it is free. It is closed on all major holidays. Adults should expect to pay up to nine dollars for a day-s admission. Parking is nine dollars also and will need to be paid in cash. Sundays it is a little cheaper.

Nearly all the bones displayed at the museum are real. Some of the missing bones are reconstructed out of resin or plaster. It is an excellent display and most the local children in the area come with their classrooms as a field trip. Not only is it a great way to spend the day, it is educational. Once someone has come to the La Brea tar pits they have a new understanding of what occurred millions ago.

Anyone who is visiting the area or lives in the Southern California vicinity should make plans to see this unique museum. Plan for a full day and enjoy time walking around and leisurely taking it all in. This is a great place to bring children and older people alike. No one is ever disappointed and most people come back again and again.Can-t get enough? There-s more: Squirrel Rescued, Rehabilitated After Plunge Into La Brea Tar Pits
