For anyone with a taste for the strange, the quirky, or even the slightly cheesy things in life, or for anyone who’s just plain curious, this trio definitely has what you crave. Forget high art or sophisticated culture -- these Museums’ strengths lie in their ability to entertain and amuse. All you need are a couple of hours, a good pair of shoes, and a sense of curiosity.

The Hollywood Wax Museum, the Guinness World Record Museum, and Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Museum are only steps away from each other, on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. Though this section of Hollywood Boulevard has become rather shabby, efforts are slowly creeping east on this street to revitalize this area. Parking is a bit difficult to find around the busy Hollywood/ Highland intersection, but there are some paid parking lots and quieter streets not too far away.

The Hollywood Wax Museum exhibits over 200 wax figures of celebrities, historical figures, and movie characters. Some of the figures are quite realistic, while others are virtually unrecognizable. There is an eeriness in the air due to the hundreds of pairs of glass eyes staring out at you, a mood that enhances the spookiness of the Wax Museum’s Chamber of Horrors. The Hollywood Wax Museum is located at 6767 Hollywood Boulevard. Admission is $9.95 for adults and $6.95 for children. This museum is open from 10am to 12 midnight from Sundays through Thursdays, and from 10am to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays. For information, call (323)462-5991.

The Guinness World of Records Museum is a collection of superlative facts and human achievements, as well as the extremes of nature. Find out what the strongest beer in the world is, who set the record for continuous sneezing, or what the fastest fish is. As world records are frequently being broken, some of the exhibits are no longer up to date, but this museum is fascinating nevertheless. The Guinness World of Records Museum is located across the street from the Hollywood Wax Museum at 6764 Hollywood Boulevard. It is open daily from 10am to 12 midnight. Admission prices are $9.95 for adults and $6.95 for children. Call the Guinness World of Records Museum at (323)463-6433 for information.

For people wanting to see a stuffed five legged calf, a picture of John Wayne made of laundry lint, or a shrunken head, stop by the Hollywood Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Museum. This museum displays hundreds of oddities, freaks of nature, and the strange things people come up with when they have the time. In our information overloaded day and age, many of the weird objects have ceased to be as weird, but the Believe it or Not! Museum is still quite interesting and entertaining. This Museum is located at 6780 Hollywood Boulevard, at the corner of Hollywood Blvd. and Highland Ave. The Museum operates daily from 10am to 10pm. Admission prices for adults are $8.95, and for children, $5.95. Triple A cardholders, seniors, and students with ID get in for $7.95. Children under 5 get in free. Call them for information at (323)466-6335.
