Los Angeles freeways that run
east and west have even numbers, and north and south freeways
have odd numbers. Most freeways have a name as well as a number.
Example: Ventura/Hollywood freeway is the 101. Call boxes with
free phones are placed every half-mile along the freeways for
emergencies. If you want to beat the rush hour commute and get a
heads up on traffic, listen to any all-news or all-talk radio
station such as KKWB or KNX during the day. If you should need
directions to a location, call the Visitor Information Center
downtown (213) 689-8822. If you are an AAA Club member, you can
call the auto club member services at (800) 222-4357, even on
the weekends. Adventurous type, want to get down to the
nitty-gritty LA street scene, grab a Thomas Guide map book
available at drugstores and newsstands. Speed limit is 55 to 65
on all urban freeways, 35mph on most major thoroughfares, and
25mph on residential and other streets, unless otherwise posted.
